Our work
we are all about
taking up space
Take Up Space is a platform for young Black individuals to take up space and talk about things that are relevant and important to us and things that we have been shunned from discussing due to the environment and circumstances we grew up in. Take Up Space is a platform that was created by survivors of Gender-Based Violence therefore our conversations are geared toward supporting survivors and giving young people a voice to speak their truth.
Black Joy
Through healing
Project Agape is proud to present the full video of Black Joy and Healing, a profound exploration of the healing journeys of 14 Black queer survivors. Over 4 months, these incredible individuals have used art, ranging from spoken word and crochet to paintings, music, and more, to reclaim their joy, express their truth, and heal within the community. This video is an intimate look into their creative processes, showcasing the power of art in overcoming trauma and embracing self-love. Each participant shares their unique experiences of softness, growth, and the joy that comes from reclaiming one’s identity and place in the world.
For the community
By the community
Soulcials is a special space within the Project Agape community where we aim to share content for the community, by the community. The monthly newsletter is a safe place for all kinds of creations and feelings to be shared with the broader audience, while learning about Project Agape, its initiatives, and partner organizations within Ottawa and across the country. It is also a great opportunity for talented community members to showcase their exquisite work, regardless of the medium, and gain a wider platform for themselves.
we are exited to share
our publications
Our work is rooted in community stories, shared learning, and healing together. In this section, you’ll find reflections from our Healing Circles, submissions to advisory committees, and other reports that capture what we’re hearing, learning, and building alongside survivors. Each publication represents the voices and wisdom of Black women and gender-diverse individuals in our community. These are stories that guide our advocacy, shape our programs, and remind us why this work matters.
